The endurance of labor pain along with the unavoidable discomfort is something that needs a lot of courage and power as well.
After carrying the baby for nine full months, this courage grew in me automatically to undergo the pain which was nothing as compared to the pleasure and joy of having my baby.
Since I longed for a normal delivery, I followed a number of tips which guided me to bear the labor pain with much ease. Few of the tips are as follows:
I used to do mild exercises daily during my pregnancy which helps in building up of good stamina as well as kept me active and energetic throughout.
Exercises like Kegels also help in strengthening the pelvic muscles. I also adopted prenatal yoga which got my flexibility increased along with provided me assistance in having my breathing control.
Letting go of stress
I was advised to refrain myself from anxiety, stress or any kind of contemplation.
All one needs is to maintain her calm and stay composed so as to avoid stressful situations. For attaining this, I gathered myself around happy and friendly people and also started reading good books.
Avoid hearing terrifying birth stories
It is very important to stay away from all those negative conservations that women get involved in after having their first child. It somewhat can depress you and create adverse effects of your normal course of delivery.
To avoid these, I had stopped hanging out with mothers who love to narrate their painful delivery stories. Instead, I kept myself in some other work which derived my pleasure.
Practicing correct breathing techniques
Breathing plays a major role while having a normal delivery. Therefore, correct breathing exercises are essential which helps in holding and leaving your breath, varying from time to time.
For the growth and development of the baby within, sufficient supply of oxygen is necessary. I took up meditation and practiced regularly which guided me well.
A balanced diet
Nutrition is very essential for not only the mother’s health but also for the child’s healthy development. It adds nourishment to the body which helps in fighting the labor pain during normal delivery.
Spending early labor at house
Labour is the commencement of a really exhausting process. Since it was my first baby, I spent time at home by relaxing my mind and body and acquiring rest as much as I could. Having right information on the early labor symptoms is crucial so as to avoid a number of trips to the hospital.
Having perineal massages
I adopted these massages right after my pregnancy’s seventh month, and it helped me in the reduction of my stress as well as provided me the strength to deal with my labor pain efficiently. It also lessened my muscular tensions along with the joint pains.

The process of delivering a baby and everything associated to it must be known by a would-be-mother. Breathing and relaxation techniques along with other labor techniques are very important for a pregnant lady’s knowledge so as to fight with all the fears and apprehensions about childbirths, thus, having a safe delivery.

Recently my friend has delivered in Sitaram Bhartia Hospital in Delhi and I was glad to know that this hospital has achieved the lowest cesarean rates with the accomplishment of 88% childbirth with normal delivery (for low – risk, first-birth mothers with a single baby in the head down position and who have crossed 37 weeks).
