We all agree to the fact that travelling with kids is an ordeal. There are so many things to be done and so few people. Many parents will also agree that they need a vacation to relax after travelling with kids. Imagine a situation when you have to travel with kids but without your partner. Woha!! Managing 2 little fellows alone is a big deal and here I am travelling alone with kids.
Recently there came a situation when i had to travel alone with kids. I learnt few things from the trip so decided to write a post to help fellow mommies who are planning to travel alone with their kids in near future.
Now, it is better to be prepared than be sorry. When you are travelling not only is your safety but also the kids safety is important.

1. Travel with a self-defense product :
No matter where you are going to , always ensure that you carry with you a self-defense product in your travel packing list. You can either keep a pepper spray handy or small scissors. The idea is something that will help you to scare away the unwanted people and also buy time to ask for help in case of an attack.
2. Make the kids carry your contact detail:
The first rule of travelling is to ensure that you keep your kids close to you. Always, ensure that you keep the kids near you and within your eye sight.
Still, in case something happens ensure that you have written your contact details on a piece of paper and tucked it deep into their pockets. This way at least you will have the mental peace that in case something happens they can at least reach you.
3. Plan out your vacation in advance when travelling alone with kids:
When you are travelling alone with kids it is important that you plan out your vacation well in advance. The idea is not to leave anything for last moment. Book your hotel and home stay in advance. Book cabs in advance so that you are not stranded on the road with your little ones.
4. Guard your privacy:
When you are travelling, it is but obvious that fellow travelers would make small talk to you. Do speak to them but do not divulge personal details like your number, where you are staying and next day’s itinerary.
5. Keep your documents safely:
When you are travelling alone with kids keep all your travel related documents like your passports, tickets, hotel confirmations and so on together. It is also important that you keep a duplicate copy of same in your luggage. Also, another wise idea is to keep all documents images password protected on your phone.
6. Do not let your feelings :
There may be instances, when you feel scared to travel alone with kids, but do not let your feelings show and let others know just how vulnerable you are feeling. Remember attackers can study your body language and understand if you are an easy prey or not.
7. Do Your Homework When You Are Travelling Alone With Kids:
If you are travelling to an unknown place then try and take out time from before about the place before you visit it. This way you will not be depended on locals there showing your direction. Follow a road trip planner and make your road trip with toddler enjoyable.
It is important that you use luggage tags on your entire luggage. Not only, does it help to identify your luggage amongst others but also in case lost , it can be traced back to you easily. I normally keep my handbag and diaper bag with me as for quick access.
9. Carry a neck support And Baby Carrier:
In case , you are planning to travel long hours, then always ensure that you actually carry a neck support with you. With kids all over you, a neck support will at least give your neck some rest and help you sleep.
10. Trust your instincts:
We all know that our motherly instincts are always right. Trust your instincts to the core. If you do not like someone or something then do not give that person any benefit of doubt. Simply go by your instincts. If you are using a car, go by car seat safety tips to ensure you have a smooth ride.
We know that travelling with kids alone is not an easy task but do not take it as a task , relax and enjoy. After all you will be able to spend some precious moments with your little one that you will cherish through out life.
